Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to White House

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.

He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Details on the Devastating Event

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”

Public Response

Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she also intended to meet with the family.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
