Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be real Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of the year.
But the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when Vicario gave away possession far beyond his area.
He came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.
But, rather than booting it out of play, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Moments later when the ball went to Vicario again, some Spurs fans booed him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing after the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are with each other moving ahead."
Tete had handed Fulham a early advantage prior to Wilson's strike β with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He is a great team player, he's a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second score was a error of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.
"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to stay more composed, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of the keeper's error, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season β after Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson shooting β which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the net, my interest lit up a bit.
"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to make the correct connection and get it towards goal. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.
This was their 10th at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint club statistic along with 1994 and 2003.
They still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"During in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well β the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost four straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League β their lowest rates on record in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
