The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
