On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard phone records and evidence recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and is still unresolved.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

A separate recorded message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I know."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? What then? Is that not significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.

The jury was advised that via emails, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with law enforcement who gathered the evidence, told the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, based on the call data.

On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my claim."

Court proceedings
Kate and Gerry McCann testified to the court from using a protective barrier on Wednesday

The court heard the co-defendant established a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in that winter.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period preceding the appearance to Rothley, the county, in December 2024.

The court heard message exchanges between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We must take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their home, the defendant transmitted a text which said: "We find ourselves sitting outside the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to investigators. I had hoped to do this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The case proceeds.
