The January transfer window proves to be a period of significant speculation and potential major transfers. A number of notable footballers are being connected to transfers out of their present clubs. We examine some of the key figures who could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears a major move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other options, leaving teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

M. Guéhi

This English defender has continued to impress for Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool falling through. As his deal set to expire in the close season, January is the London club's final chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January exit remains unlikely, particularly given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has found first-team minutes limited at Tottenham this term. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has begun only a small number of league games. Reports suggest the London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now only 28, and with his contract ending in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spain that he would be willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit seems increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The prolific English striker has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the England World Cup. But, securing a deal poses significant challenges. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported huge salary make any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

The energetic English midfielder attracted considerable interest in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having limited starts in Spain this season, he is keen to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. United have been strongly linked, and a return to Selhurst Park, where he excelled on a temporary deal, remains a option, although wage constraints might prove a problem.

H. Elliott

Despite excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this talented midfielder has found it tough for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer will not become permanent. Due to specific rules regarding representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool before next season appears to be the only viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey attacker is in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. With his current contract running down, many Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but face a race to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely expected to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
